– Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the people of Niger Delta needs justice;
– Osinbajo believes that despite the fact that Nigeria main resources (crude oil) came from Niger Delta, the region seems to be neglected
The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has yesterday said the people of Niger Delta region deserve justice and better treatment from the federal government.
Prof. Osinbajo made this statement through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande during an ongoing engagement with the people of the region on Friday, March 17.
According to him, “The President believes the people of the Niger Delta deserve justice, and for me also it is a very important point. The state of the region and the suffering of the people do not reflect the fact that it is the resource base of the country. In spite of the past leadership failure, the Niger Delta people deserved a fair deal.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Jubril, who was also present at the event which held at the presidential villa in Abuja said that his ministry has fully engaged the Ogoni Clean-Up Project Coordinator, Dr. Marvin Dekil. He also stated that the potential contractors have been visiting the site to demonstrate available and suitable technology to be used for the clean-up.
It should be recalled that Osinbajo recently visited the Niger Delta region with a view of pacifying the people and on one of his visits to Bayelsa, Friday, the VP said that the nature’s gift of oil in Niger Delta is tantamount to a burden and a curse on the communities in the region.
