Three teen burglars killed in Oklahoma
Three burglars disguised in masks wearing gloves and dressed in black were killed Monday when they broke into a home, authorities of Oklahoma confirmed.
The son of the homeowner, 23, fired shots from a rifle; officials confirmed. One of the suspect had a knife, while another carried brass knuckles for their mission.
“Preliminary investigation looks like it’s self-defense,” said Wagoner County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Mahoney, cautioning the investigation was continuing into the midday home invasion.
When investigators got to the crime scene, the shooter turned himself in for questioning. He and his father were not hurt in the incident.
The County’s Sheriff Deputy, Mahoney, said also that a 21-year-old woman turned herself into Broken Arrow police and may have been a getaway driver.
Just before 12:30 p.m., the thieves broke through a door in the back of the home outside Broken Arrow, which is a suburb of Tulsa. The shooter was present with his father and engaged them.
“There was a short exchange of words, then gunfire happened,” Mahoney told reporters.
Two of the burglars where found in the kitchen; while the other was found on the driveway. Mahoney described them as 16 or 17 and one as 18. The names of the suspects were not immediately released to reporters.
According to Mahoney, he noted that it did not appear that the residents and burglars were acquaintances or had any previous knowledge of each other.
While authorities said the neighborhood has a low crime rate, resident Leon Simmons told CNN affiliate KTUL there have been a few burglaries in the past six months.
