Chicago Police arrest 14-year-old-boy charged in group sexual assault streamed online

US authorities have apprehended a 14-year-old-boy charged in group sexual assault on a teenage girl that was streamed online through Facebook live broadcast.

In a media statement the Police said the teen faces charges including aggravated criminal sexual assault and manufacturing and disseminating child pornography – something abhorring and unlawful.

His arrest makes him the “first of several juvenile offenders” to be charged over the assault that took place on March 19, with more arrests expected to follow as investigation continues, Police statement noted. The Police have earlier said they were in search for some six people who were shown in the video of the assault.

Spokesman for the Police, Jose Estrada noted that it had been challenging for investigators to apprehend others as the video after the assault showed mostly closeups of body parts.

Online harassment

As the investigation ensues Police noted that the teenage girl has received several online taunts and harassment and threats, and that the Police is working to ensure she is safe.

On the afternoon of March 19 the teen was reported missing after she didn’t return from a store in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood.

Just between the time when she didn’t show up at home till the following morning did the mother saw the live broadcast.

Police alerted

The mother of the teen on March 20 contacted Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson outside the 10th district headquarters and informed him about the live stream on Facebook live.

The aggrieved mother told Eddie her daughter had been missing for 24 hours and she showed him screenshots of the incident Facebook live broadcast, according to police.

Police said no fewer than 40 people were watching the assault streamed live on Facebook but none of the viewers reported it.

The girl was later treated after the ugly incident at the hospital before she united with her family again.
