One of the most experienced coaches in Rivers State, John Apolo is set to make history again as he leads his lads against his former club Rivers United, for the first time since joining Cynosure Fc.
Having set the record of leading Cynosure Fc to becoming the first amateur club to pick a Federations Cup ticket in the open era, Coach Apolo says his team is already in the national so there is nothing to lose.
Over the weekend Cynosure Fc defeated Go-Round Fc 4-2 via penalty shootouts in the FA Cup semifinal after the encounter ended 1-1 at full time while Rivers United beat SKE Fc 2-1 to set up the epic Final encounter between both sides.
Coach Apolo John came out of retirement to join Cynosure Fc last December and he has been the brain behind the exploit of the Port Harcourt based team.
Speaking to Cynosure media, Coach Apolo revealed he prayed for this encounter.
“I prayed for this encounter and it has come true. We are looking forward for a better result but whatever comes, we are already in the national so nothing to lose.
When asked why he accepted the call to return to coaching, Apolo said:
“Yes, Cynosure Fc management helped me by recalling me from retirement because retirement was something difficult for me but this opportunity they gave me, I am using it to pay back them.
Coach John Apolo went further to speak on the prospect of leading a team against Coach Eguma Stanley
“To me this final match is going to be a recreation. It’s not going to be a do or die affair. I worked with Eguma some couple of years ago.
“I helped him become a coach so the two of us are of one team, only that i decided to rest a little but didn’t know the rest could have led to my death.
I don’t think i have anything to loose in this final match. If the result goes their way, OK, if it comes my way, no problem. We are all brothers, we are all Rivers men. So No victor………No vanquish” Apolo concluded.
Rivers United will confront Cynosure Fc in the final of the 2017 Rivers State FA Cup to be played on Tuesday 9th May at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium Port Harcourt.
Both teams will represent Rivers State in the 2017 Federations Cup.
